Hello Barlow-Wadley Fans,
Here
you can see my Barlow Wadley which I bought in 1975. After some small
modifications I used it with my Amateur Radio Station. The Transmitter
was a homemade
Heathkit DX60B with VFO (on the right) and an also
homemade PA (5x PL519, circuit by DL9AH). The pictures were made in 1976:
In 1976 I wrote an article explaining an easy method
how to improve the bandwidth and the AGC.
It was published in the amateur radio magazin cq-DL (July 1976, p.
241). A shortened English translation of
my article was published by ZS1FD (F. Flanter) in
the RADIO ZS magazin April 1977, p. 16 (look for it on Francescos
website!). Of course I made some more improvements on my own Barlow
Wadley: For example I added a
RF-gain control (a really great feature!) and a switch for changing the AGC time constants for a much better SSB/CW sound. I substituted the old shaky micro switches in the Antenna Trim circuit
by a pair of new ones. These switches are still available nowadays! Meantime I added a very sharp ceramic filter CFJ-455K providing a really narrow bandwidth for USB/LSB and a wider for AM. It is
automatically switched by the MODE-Switch.
Recently I created a new frequency table
(for the flip-up holder on the top of the BW). The old one
looked really very poor. I scanned it and
“regenerated” it using good grafic software. Now, here is the result! If
you have got a foto printer and good foto glossy paper (DIN A4, 200g/m²
recommended) you
can easily create your own new frequency table! Just
click on the picture below to get the original size, then save it and
print it!
